REFLECTION

Experience

The journey of learning typography started with minimal interest but evolved into a transformative experience across 14 weeks and 3 tasks. Initially unenthused, Mr Vinod engaging lectures ignited curiosity, leading to an exploration of typography techniques. Overcoming initial challenges, consistent efforts allowed timely completion of tasks, unveiling typography as an ongoing learning process akin to life lessons. This journey reshaped my perspective. fostering a deep appreciation for typography's role in design. Despite being an introvert, Mr Vinod's guidance helped navigate challenges, ultimately refining skills and highlighting the complexities and simplicities within typography's design influence.

Observations

Over the course of 14 weeks, my perspective on typography underwent a substantial shift, expanding my understanding of design beyond mere drawing. I now perceive typography as a potent tool that enriches design's quality, emphasising the significance of meticulous details in conveying messages effectively. Mr Vinod's constructive feedback refined my layout, fostering a deeper appreciation for text's role in design. Furthermore, my learning journey has hightened my discernment in font selection, leaving me eager to explore more facets of typography and prompting a new found habit of analysing font in various contexts, from social media to products label and beyond.

Findings

This course has deeply influenced my design outlook and I aimed to carry its lessons forward, continuously honing my skills and embracing creative exploration. Typography, as an art form, demands discipline  and practice to master. Reviewing works with lecturers before submissions proved crucial for improvements, emphasising the importance of heeding feedbacks for better results. Furthermore, practicing and experimenting are key elements in refining skills, as the adage 'practice makes perfect' suggests. This introductory module has equipped me with foundational knowledge, priming my interest for an upcoming Advanced Typography course, which I eagerly anticipate for its challenges and deeper insights into this captivating field.
